How to Tell Someone is a storytelling podcast about communicating the big stuff--things that are heavy, awkward, strange, embarrassing, complicated, etc. This will be a limited project, not intended to be an ongoing series, so I'm planning to record all the conversations in advance and release the collection all at once.
I'm inviting my friends to sit down for a recorded conversation where you'll share a story about a time you said something big, or something big was said to you. We'll talk about how it was done, what the impact was, and what you learned along the way. I want the tone of these conversations to be authentic and vulnerable and just structured enough for good storytelling without sucking the life out of the conversation. I want to make sure there's enough space to let the conversation flow as naturally as possible.
This is not about happy endings or offering advice. An important pillar of this series is to share our experiences with emotional honesty and vulnerability so that we can invite each other and listeners to practice radical empathy. We are a messy, complicated, fragile, and often emotionally inadequate species. We're also strong, resilient, and appreciate a good joke even when the world is burning.
Thanks for filling out this quick form to help me get my ducks in a row. Of course, you can change your mind at anytime about your participation, but this will help me get the ball rolling in the planning department. After you fill it out, I'll send you a link to a worksheet that can help you decide on a story and start thinking through the structure of how you'll tell it!
